On 15 June 2024, thirty years will have passed since one of the greatest Greeks breathed his last breath in Athens. Composer and poet, conductor and pianist, Manos Hadjidakis left his mark on modern Greek culture like few others.
The story of Manos' life begins in the Old Town of Xanthi on 23 October 1925 and brings him from the picturesque alleys of his homeland to the port of Piraeus to become a carrier and ice seller at the Fix Brewery. Later he passes through the basement of the Karolos Koun Art Theatre and the ERT headquarters with the creation of the “Third Program” and even goes so far as to win an Oscar for Best Original Song, and this will be the first time in history that the award will be given to a song of a foreign (non-American) production.
There are not enough words to adequately describe the life and work of Manos Hadjidakis.
Therefore, join us on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at the Trinitatiskirche, to get to know Manos and his World through his music:
Love, eros, loneliness, loneliness, flirt, feast, power, sensitivity, war, struggle, vanity, nostalgia, hope: Manos' music seems to illuminate every human aspect. Let us therefore let ourselves be touched by it, as only Manos knows how…
The choir is conducted by Dr. Ursula Vryzaki and the choir is accompanied on our journey by the musicians:
