Celebrating 100 years of Mikis Theodorakis on November 15, 2025
On Saturday, November 15, 2025, the Polyphonia e.V. choir will celebrate one of Greece's greatest artists and composer, Mikis Theodorakis, with a spectacular concert.
Mikis Theodorakis, born in 1925, shaped an entire musical era. His music is still groundbreaking today:
- Identity: inspired by Greek folk music, culture and history, his music became part of the Greek identity.
- Politics and society: in various ways, his music addresses political and social issues and thus advocates for democracy, human rights and the rule of law.
- Mikis Theodorakis enjoyed great international recognition. He brought Greek music and its diverse themes to the world stage, often pairing them with socio-political issues, speaking from the heart of the people. He brought these issues to attention to a wide audience.
- Film and theatre music – whether it was the theme music for films such as ‘Serpico’ or ‘Alexis Sorbas’ or the music for the stage revue ‘Omorfi Poli (Beautiful City)’ – he influenced both genres with his unmistakable style; all of these titles became legendary during his lifetime.
His songs were played equally at work, on the streets, in the kafenions and in the great concert halls of the Western world.
Come and celebrate with us!
